Banner Types:

Horizontal Banners - Horizontal banners are those that will fit into any horizontal area, most commonly found at the top, bottom or sometimes the middle of the page.  The typical sizes are standard banner sizes 468 X 60 and leader board sizes 728 X 90.  In either case, a horizontal banner is defined as one that is wider than it is long.

Vertical Banners - Vertical banners are those that will fit into any vertical area, most commonly found at the left or right hand columns of the page.  The typical sizes are standard banner sizes 120 X 600 or 160 X 600.  In either case, a vertical banner is defined as one that is longer than it is wide.

Box or Other Banners - These are going to be banners that are more equal in length and width and will hold placements generally in corners, headers and footer areas, but also wherever they logically fit and flow with material.  Although generally smaller in size these of course have more flexibility of placement as they sometimes can also fit in the same areas for horizontal and vertical banners.
